Building Teams That Actually Work Together

Forget theory. We teach financial managers how to handle the messy human side of running a department—through scenarios you'll actually face when someone calls in sick on deadline day or two team members won't speak to each other.

What Keeps Finance Leaders Awake

Three situations we hear about most from department heads and CFOs across Australia. Sound familiar?

The Promotion Puzzle

Your best analyst deserves advancement but managing people requires completely different skills. How do you prepare them without setting everyone up for disappointment?

Performance Conversations

Everyone dreads giving critical feedback. Then there's documenting issues properly while maintaining working relationships and staying compliant with Fair Work regulations.

Retention Reality

Losing someone means months of disruption—hiring, training, covering workload. But throwing money at the problem doesn't always fix underlying team dynamics or career path concerns.

How We Structure Learning

Our autumn 2025 cohort starts in September. Rather than cramming everything into intensive weeks, we spread content across four months. This gives you time to try things between sessions and bring back real results—or real problems—to discuss.

Sessions run Tuesday evenings online, which works better for most finance schedules than full-day workshops that disrupt quarter-end close periods.

1

Foundation Month

Understanding what motivates different personality types and communication styles in your department. We use actual workplace scenarios from past participants.

2

Difficult Conversations

Handling underperformance, addressing conflicts, and delivering feedback that creates change rather than resentment. Includes Australian workplace law essentials.

3

Development Plans

Creating career paths that work in smaller finance teams where traditional hierarchies don't exist. Balancing technical growth with management capability.

4

Integration Practice

Bringing everything together with case studies tailored to your specific department size and industry. Final month focuses on implementing one major change back at work.

Who Teaches This

Both facilitators come from finance backgrounds—they've managed teams through mergers, restructures, and the chaos of rapid growth before moving into education.

What Happens After Training

We don't promise everyone will become brilliant managers. Some people discover they prefer staying technical—and that's valuable information too. What we do provide is practical frameworks for the situations that come up repeatedly.

Past participants mention two specific benefits most often. First, having language to address problems they previously just tolerated. Second, connecting with other finance leaders facing similar challenges, which continues well beyond the formal sessions.

Classes deliberately stay small—maximum twelve participants—because meaningful discussion requires everyone to contribute. This also means spots fill quickly once registration opens in July 2025.

If you're tired of winging it when personnel issues arise, or if someone on your team needs preparation before stepping into a leadership role, the content might be relevant.
